hello CL, hello all....I have read quite a bit of C.L. 's work and
have enjoyed the majority of it very nicely. I do like Brunner, some
of the stories are really great. I enjoyed Blood of the Dragon very
much and I don't care that much for dragon stories. Being a huge
fan of Solomon Kane I didn't really like the Witch Hunter tales as
much as I'd hoped for some reason or other. I believe I prefer Brunner.
I really like the bad guy/con artist dude in Blood of the Dragon, he is
a character that warrants development for certain. Can't recall his name of the top of my head though? He did live to the end of the book which was smart. He is a bit hard to like, perhaps he could be softened a tad. I feel its essential that
characters are liked at some level. Of course you can like them
because they are so freaking bad I suppose. I do lover the short
stories in the Anthologies very much. The witch hunter stories I've read
by various writers in the short pieces I have truly enjoyed immensely.

I think CL has a great future in the fantasy genre. Keep writing!

I must say that I enjoyed his story in Death & Dishonour. Just finished it.

Thanks for the feedback. That story has been knocking around in my brain for over five years. It was originally set in Bretonnia and was to appear as a lead-in for Blood of the Dragon, but when the size of that novel was reduced, the short story was dropped. Since then, I made quite a few efforts to get it into print and it was one of two projects I was working on for submission to Inferno! before that magazine's sad demise. I then tried to get it into a few of the anthologies, but the theme of the anthos never made a good fit. at least until now.

Be sure to let the BL know (and this goes for everybody) if you want to see more Brunner. Of all the characters I've written, he remains a favorite.

Brunner is the one, he is your iconic character...you should write
as much Brunner as possible. He is the guy that will make you
a Mr Big!! I like Brunner because he is somber like Solomon Kane
and a little crazy too. I read an interview where you said that Brunner
is your Conan...naw! Brunner is unique and a very, very good creation.
I can't wait to get Death and Dishonour just for that story. The supporting
characters are good too. Brunner be the one and you already got a
great start with him too. Streng is similar in a lot of ways except he is
very much NOT noble in any way. It might be nice to see some solo Streng stuff, yeah baby! Maybe you could make him a little less disgusting by having a teenage daughter who is forced to tag along with him on
some mission...give her some kind of power so she isn't just baggage...plus don't think teenage readers don't like reading about one
of their own...its a major thing with them

I actually had a few plots revolving around Brunner and the (now teenage) boy he rescued in 'What Price Vengeance'. I also had a complex storyline plotted out for Brunner getting involved with a disgraced noblewoman who convinces him to help her get revenge on the men who wronged her. An extremely twisted sort of romance based on revenge and deceit - largely inspired by the Raquel Welch movie 'Hannie Caulder', though with a healthy dose of my own dark tastes mixed in.

Sometime, someway, Brunner will be back. If the omnibus does extremely well, perhaps sooner rather than later.

As for Streng, I think he works best as he is. Not to say that in his own way he doesn't have some redeeming values, but I can't see him ever being much of a family man.

Wasn't What Price Vengeance in the Way of the Dead anthology...if so I absolutely loved that story and think it was the best thing I've read by you so far. That entire book was great btw. That particular story had an awesome cinematic quality...I could really see and feel it as I read...that's not an easy thing to accomplish there. I like the other story you had in that anthology. There was some nicely down imagery in that one too, like when the kids killed the Priest I believe it was. I gave that book to a friend and he never gave it back...go figure. Great Sword and sorcery collection that I highly recommend to everyone. No a bad story in the bunch.

Yes, that was indeed 'What Price Vengeance' in Way of the Dead along with 'The Small Ones' which marked the first appearance of Black Guard templat Erhardt. The Brunner omnibus features the original, expanded text of 'What Price Vengeance', inlcuding Brunner's meeting with Judge Vaulkberg. So read it again and discover what you never knew you missed ;)

I'm not much of a fan for reading, mostly because I find it very hard to find a book I actually like. However I must say, after reading the Brunner Omnibus I was really impressed. Not only did I find a book I liked but an author as well. I found myself regretting finishing the last book in Brunner because there is no more to read about him! I love the character and the stories, I am currently reading the Mathias Thulman Omnibus and so far it is awesome. I must say I hope you write a new novel based around Brunner. After the end of 'Blood of the Dragon' I find myself waiting to see if he would avenge himself! Please write another novel =D
